Travel Info

PVSC Travel soccer is an opportunity for boys and girls interested in taking their soccer talents to the next level.  They are able to achieve this by practicing nearly year-round and competing against players of similar ability from other clubs. The experience of traveling to other communities and playing together as a team against other clubs builds a bond between players that can continue on and off the field.   Players are eligible to tryout for travel teams beginning at age 7.

Many people seem to hear Travel Soccer these days and get scared off by the financial and time commitment.

PVSC believes that cost should not be a barrier to playing travel soccer.  In the past few years we have been able to keep our costs about 1/3 less than other clubs in the area while still offering a similar level of training and games and a great experience to our players and families.  We also strive to keep travel minimal and manageable for families.

PVSC teams typically play in the Fall Central League (U9 to U13), which includes clubs mostly within 45 minutes of Collegeville.  Prior team participants have included clubs from Coventry, Haverford, Lionville, King of Prussia, Methacton, Lower Merion, Phoenixville and Radnor, among others. Most teams participate in two to four festivals/tournaments throughout the year, generally within an hour of Collegeville.

PVSC encourages each of its travel teams to become involved in other activities so the kids can bond together and become close friends. Most teams participate in fundraisers throughout the year and typically have non-soccer get-togethers (bowling, picnics, etc.).  The club also organizes club-wide events during the year including a Union match and attending the PV High School Senior Night soccer game.

Season Timing

A "Travel Team Season" lasts for one year, running from June through May of the following year. Teams are formed following Tryouts that occur in April and/or early May of each year.

Travel teams typically participate in Fall, Winter, and Spring leagues as well as training during the Summer.  They also compete in two to four tournaments over the course of the year. The Fall season runs September-November and while Spring season runs April-May.  The teams also participate in State Cups in the Spring.

Practices generally begin in June or July of each year and focus on conditioning , fundamentals and adjusting to game play on larger field sizes (for younger teams). For most teams, practices generally run about once a week in the Summer and then bump to twice a week in the Fall and Spring. Most teams also participate in some indoor training from January through March (usually about once a week).

Outdoor games are typically played on weekends in the Fall and weekends in the Spring.   Teams typically take off from soccer from early November through the end of December.

Cost

PVSC strives to keep its costs as low possible for Travel participants.  The Club's goal is to provide a low-cost / affordable program by providing the most efficient and effective training methods to best develop our travel players.  The majority of our coaches and staff are all volunteer, which helps us to offer Travel fees lower than most other local clubs.

Participation in younger travel teams (U9-U11) costs approximately $400-$700 per player per travel season (12 months).  We've seen similar costs range from $900 to as much as $2,400 per year for comparable programs at nearby clubs.  Among other things, this fee includes:

  • Professional style uniform including a home & away jersey, socks, and shorts
  • Central League Fall and Spring season
  • State Cup fees
  • Tournament /Soccer Festival fees (typically three or four per Travel Year)
  • Referee fees
  • Indoor facility rental and training fees
  • Indoor season fees
  • Outside trainer fees for teams.
  • PVSC registration fees: this fee covers insurance, field rental, team equipment (corner flags, goals), etc.

Total cost for each team varies based on the team's activities. For example, some teams elect to skip an indoor season due to the high cost.

In recent years our U9 and U10 teams completed a full travel season with costs at about $400-500 per player.   Teams may also participate in fund-raising during the year if they chose, which is usually used to support other team activities.

PVSC does offer financial assistance to those in need of help paying for the cost of Travel soccer.  If you are interested in more information on this program please Contact Us.
