Even Hurricane Irene couldn’t slow down the Pumas at the 38th Annual Oley Valley Youth League Tournament this past Saturday August 27th.  The girls took 1st place after defeating the Cocalico Eagles (3-1), Phoenixville Hurricanes (3-0) and Elco Raiders (2-0 in an abbreviated game).

The most impressive feat was the fact that seven different players were responsible for the eight goals scored.  Just as impressive is they came from various positions in the formation.  Goals were scored by a forward, attacking mid-fielders (3), an outside mid-fielder, defending mid-fielders (2), and an outside fullback on a corner kick.  The defense played very strong and allowed only one goal on a direct kick just outside of the penalty box.  The two goaltenders made some amazing saves and helped keep the lead at crucial parts of the game.

This was a great start to the fall campaign and will hopefully be carried into the PAGS season and two more upcoming tournaments.  Congratulations girls … you played great and the coaches are very proud of you all!!
